May Member spotlight: Archana Kaur, MPH

Archana Kaur, MPH is a Senior Research Associate at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Center for Injury Research and Policy

KaurTell us about your areas of interest within injury and violence prevention. Why did you decide to pursue a career in this field?

Before joining the Center of Injury Research and Policy, my areas of interest were obesity, nutrition, and access to healthy foods in the rural community. I interviewed with Dr. Ginger Yang for my current position, and she sparked my interest in injury research. I currently work on projects that target teen driving behaviors and concussions in children in the state of Ohio.

How long have you been a member of SAVIR?  What has been your favorite part about being involved with SAVIR?

I recently became a member of SAVIR and the conference this year in DC was my first SAVIR conference! I must say the conference so far has been my favorite part of SAVIR. I had a great time meeting professionals in the injury field, presenting my work, learning about other injury and policy research and meeting collaborators in person! I also discovered the communication committee during the committee pitches and decided I wanted to be part of it!

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?

The most rewarding aspect of my career so far has been hearing feedback from the parents and teenagers in our study about how our study has positively impacted their teen’s driving behaviors or improved the communication between parents and teens!

What do you like to do in your free time?

During my free time, I like to go on walks and go hiking! My favorite place to hike and explore was the Grand Canyon. The view was unreal, and it was a very fulfilling experience for me. I also enjoy painting and traveling. Spain is next on my list to visit and explore!
